ROTARY POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARDS

RECOGNISING “SERVICE ABOVE SELF”.

 

THE AWARDS 

The Police Officer of the Year awards allows Rotary District 9600, on behalf of the community, to recognise the excellent work being undertaken, day after day, by the majority of men and women of the Queensland Police Service.

Nominations for 2011 will be accepted until 31st March 2012, with awards presented at a dinner function to be held on Friday 22nd June 2012.

Excellence in Policing awards will be made to an Officer from each category in both Metropolitan North and North Coast Regions.

 

The following categories will be judged:-

·        General Duties

·        Investigators / Detectives

·        First-Year Constables

·        Traffic Branch

·        Specialists

 

Police Officers are assessed on outstanding acts of courtesy, kindness, understanding, compassion, courage and devotion to duty. Overall, assessment is made on the principles of “Service Above Self”.

Judging is based on content of nomination. The more detail that can be provided about an Officer and a particular event, the more information the judging panel has with which to make a decision.

The judging panel will comprise of 2 Senior Police Officers and 2 Rotary Past District Governors.

All reference to the personal details of the Police Officer is removed from the nomination form for the purpose of judging.

 

There are two main awards:

 

1/      The Community Police Officer of The Year Award:

Members of the public nominate the candidates. A winner from each category, in each Region, will be announced, from which The Community Police Officer of the Year is selected – one for Metropolitan North and one for North Coast.

 

2/      The Peer Police Officer of The Year Award:

Candidates for this award are nominated by their peers in the Queensland Police Service. A winner from each category, in each Region, will be announced, from which The Peer Police Officer of The Year is selected – one for Metropolitan North and one for North Coast. The peer nominations give Officers who do not generally deal direct with the community the opportunity to also be recognised.
